  4.    DIED. Margot Fonteyn, 71, legendary prima ballerina; of
  5. cancer; in Panama City. Born Margaret Hookham in Surrey,
  6. England, Fonteyn made her debut as a snowflake with the
  7. Vic-Wells Ballet (now known as the Royal Ballet) at 15 and
  8. distinguished herself in a 50-year career with a classical and
  9. graceful but passionate style. Memorable performances, such as
  10. The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Giselle and Romeo and Juliet,
  11. sustained unstinting critical and box-office success. In 1962,
  12. at 42, Dame Margot started a dynamic partnership with Rudolf
  13. Nureyev, who was 19 years younger. Formerly of the Kirov
  14. Ballet, he had defected from the Soviet Union in 1961. They
  15. danced together until the late 1970s. Said Nureyev: "For me she
  16. represents eternal youth."
